After dinner, give each family member a bag or pillowcase and ask him or her to bring back to the table (in the bag) their most valuable possession. Take turns trying to guess each person’s item.
Why is this so valuable?
How do you treat this because it is valuable?
How would feel if something happened to it?
We treat things that are special differently than we would a broken toy missing two wheels. God gave the Israelites a special item, a beautiful box called the Ark of the Covenant (not to be confused with Noah’s ark which was a boat). It was His way to show that He was with them. He gave them special rules about how to build it, how to move it, and how to treat it.
Students learned about Israel’s disrespect for God and the Ark of the Covenant. They didn’t respect or obey His rules; they worshipped other gods, they didn’t follow God’s rules on how to handle the Ark of the Covenant.
How should we treat God? (with respect, with honor, with special care, etc.)
God’s name, His house, and His rules should be treated with respect and honor.
