Kelly Hughes joined the staff at Lenexa Baptist Church in December of 2000. Kelly received his undergraduate degree from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. He also has a Master's Degree from Purdue University. He and his wife, Pam, have two children, Andy and Jamie.
Kelly trusted Christ as his Savior and was baptized as a young teen, but did not experience true spiritual growth until he rededicated his life to the Lord while attending a revival meeting some years later. Kelly writes, "Since then God has brought me along a step at a time in how He has used me and drawn me closer to Him and to His work."
In the fall of 1998, Kelly began to sense that God was calling him into something new. At that time, he had enjoyed a successful career at AT&T for 19 years, and had plans to continue in the corporate world for another 10-15 years. But as God guided him gradually through various aspects of ministry at Lenexa Baptist Church, he began to realize that what God had in mind was a big change, a call into a life of full-time service and ministry.
While participating in an "Experiencing God" study with a small group of men, he surrendered to full time ministry not knowing that God's call would ultimately lead him to serve at Lenexa Baptist Church. God worked out every detail in His own timing, and Kelly was later called to his current position.
Kelly has a heart for evangelizing our community, to bring to the lost the message of John 8:12 where Jesus says:
"I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
He seeks to minister to the church body through various teaching and preaching opportunities, as well as being heavily involved in Lenexa Baptist Church Music Ministries. His passion is our traditional Sunday School programs which help people of all ages, and at every stage of life to make friends, enjoy fellowship and learn from God's Word.
